Spotify Finally Lands In India

Music streaming service Spotify is finally available in India starting from today with new features tuned to the personal tastes of Indian music fans. While users get an option to download the app and experience local and international music for free with complete control for smartphone users allowing them to play every song on demand, the service has also brought in premium plans starting at as little as INR 13 for one day for the top pack and subscription pack for just INR 119 per month. If you are a student, you get a discounted price of just INR 59 per month for a subscription and INR 66 for a top up.

This launch from the streaming service comes after a long (really long) wait, and it looks like the music fans are finally in for a treat, looking at how the service has been tuned to the Indian audience. With many Indians speaking several local languages, Spotifyโ€™s music recommendation engine can now be tuned to Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. Indian users can select their preferred language(s) to receive tailored Daily Mix, Home, Radio, Search results and recommendations.

Many playlists including the likes of Indiestan, Rap91, Namaste Love, Punjabi 101, Bollywood Butter, Top Hits in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi have been said to be expertly curated keeping in mind the Indian music fans. And the best part is? These playlists sit alongside the celebrated international playlists including Mint, Rap Caviar, Viva Latino and the This is… artist compilations.

Going deeper, it is being said that the Spotify’s algorithms are capable of tracking what’s hot in the city and creating playlists based on what’s trending in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai.
