Arturia has launched the KeyLab Mk3, an advanced MIDI controller designed to cater to professional musicians and producers. The new model builds upon its predecessor with several key upgrades, particularly in its keybed, interface, and overall construction.
The KeyLab Mk3 features a re-engineered semi-weighted keybed with improved balance, weighting, and spring tension, offering musicians enhanced expressivity. The keys are durable and velocity-sensitive, optimized for accuracy and performance. The Mk3 also includes redesigned aftertouch, touch-sensitive controls, and flexible creative features.
One of the most notable changes from the previous Mk2 version is the new 480 x 320-pixel color screen. This interface is paired with eight contextual buttons, streamlining navigation and offering real-time feedback during use. Arturia has also removed overlay text from buttons, giving the device a minimalist appearance. However, the number of pads has been reduced from 16 to 12 compared to the Mk2.
In terms of build quality, the KeyLab Mk3 distinguishes itself from the Essential series with a more robust design. While the Essential series is known for its lightweight plastic construction, the Mk3 incorporates a metal base and wood panels, making it significantly heavier and more durable.
The controller offers advanced connectivity with major DAWs, allowing users to view contextual information on-screen and control their music-making software and instruments effectively. The KeyLab Mk3 also includes customizable MIDI settings, intuitive controls, and enhanced pad capabilities, with four pad banks of 12 velocity and pressure-sensitive pads. Additionally, it features nine touch-sensitive rotary potentiometers and nine faders, offering precise control over sound and workflow.
Arturia’s KeyLab Mk3 comes bundled with software such as Analog Lab Pro, Ableton Live Lite, and instruments from the V Collection, providing users with a comprehensive suite of tools to start making music immediately. The device also includes dedicated MIDI I/O and DAW mappings, ensuring seamless transitions between hardware and software control.
The KeyLab Mk3, priced starting at $499, is available now.
