Apogee has unveiled its latest audio interface for guitarists, the Jam X, promising to take players to a whole new level of experience with their instruments. The device comes with a built-in compressor offering three levels of gain, which Apogee claims provides more tone-shaping than one would typically expect from an interface of this size

The Jam X is the latest addition to the Jam line, which Apogee released in 2010 and has since undergone several updates and additions. The device has managed to stand out from its predecessors and competitors by including an analog compressor, a feature not offered by anyone else in the market, according to Apogee.

The new addition will allow guitarists to shape their tone after plugging it into their iOS device or computer, providing extra shaping power before it reaches any virtual amp sims. The three presets, including Smooth Leveler, Purple Squeeze, and Vintage Blue Stomp, offer added flexibility to dictate the amount of input gain, from subtle to extreme.

In addition to the compressor, the Jam X also features Blend mode, cutting out latency when recording, sample rates up to 96kHz, and “ample headroom.” It works with PCs, Macs, and iOS devices with type C ports and supports various instruments with a pickup.

Apogee is also bundling a trial of the Polyphia guitarist’s Archetype software and Ableton Live Lite with the device, adding extra value to its £/$199 price tag. The Jam X comes in a cool, gold look and a durable metal case, making it ideal for travel and providing a simple, portable solution for recording and demoing on the road.

Overall, the Jam X is an exciting addition to the crowded iOS and computer interface market, and its analog compressor and presets offer guitarists a unique tool to shape their tone and take their playing to the next level.
