Now It’s Easy Peasy To Create Music With EZPZ

Audiovisual startup Chroma has launched a new iOS app called EZPZ, which allows users to create music by drawing with sound. The app is the result of a collaboration between Chroma and Swedish techno artist Cari Lekebusch, and promises to provide an innovative way for music fans to engage with an artist’s work.

EZPZ is designed to be easy to use and accessible to anyone, regardless of musical knowledge or background in music production. The app features a range of “sound brushes” that users can draw with, each of which plays a different timbre. The app then translates the user’s drawings into melodies, which can be enhanced with background loops, pre-made beats, and effects.

Users can adjust the tempo and loop length of their creations to perfect their composition, before sharing it with friends via a screen recording function. However, the final product cannot be exported as an audio file.

The app is positioned as a new way for fans to engage with an artist’s work. “It is not just a new way of creating music, but also a new way of distributing it,” say the app’s creators. “Imagine EZPZ as an album release chopped up into fragments you can play with. Along with Kano’s stem player, EZPZ represents a shift in the music industry towards breaking free from legacy formats that have dominated for decades.”

Cari Lekebusch adds: “EZPZ creates a space for an unprecedented, engaging way for fans to explore and interact with my music. It’s not a record, an MP3 or a digital stream, but an audiovisual experience that allows the listeners to also be creative. The idea of being able to doodle with sound has always been in the back of my mind, and I am so happy to be able to bring it to life with Chroma.”

EZPZ is now available to download on the App Store.
